Hellermann Tyton Pre-Insulated Terminal Yellow Ring Lug M6 Hole

Hellermann Tyton Yellow M6 Pre-Insulated Ring Terminal: Double Grip Design for High-Vibration Environments

Reliable Electrical Connections in Demanding Conditions

The Hellermann Tyton Yellow M6 Pre-Insulated Ring Terminal is engineered for professionals who require secure, durable connections in automotive, marine, and industrial applications. Its double grip crimp design provides a dual clamping action on both the conductor and insulation, making it ideal for high-vibration environments where standard terminals may fail. This terminal accommodates 4.06.0 mm conductors (approximately 1012 AWG) and features a 6.4 mm stud hole for M6 bolts, ensuring a precise fit on common stud sizes.

Unlike generic ring terminals, the Hellermann Tyton solution uses a three-piece manufacturing process that integrates the copper body, insulation sleeve, and colour-coded vinyl in a single, robust assembly. This construction reduces the risk of sleeve separation during crimping and enhances long-term reliability. The yellow vinyl insulation is not only colour-coded for quick identification of the 46 mm size range but also rated for continuous operation at +75 C, with a maximum voltage rating of 600 V and current capacity up to 48 A.

*Note typical de-rating factors apply; ensure proper crimping and installation practices for optimal performance.

Key Features

• Double grip crimp secures both conductor and insulation, reducing wire pull-out in high-vibration settings
• Colour-coded yellow vinyl insulation for instant size recognition and electrical isolation
• Three-piece construction prevents sleeve detachment and ensures consistent crimp quality
• Copper body with tin plating offers excellent conductivity and corrosion resistance
• Flared barrel entry simplifies wire insertion, even with fine-stranded conductors
• Supplied in packs of 50, ideal for workshop stock or large installations

Engineered for Harsh Environments

Electrical systems in vehicles, machinery, and outdoor equipment are constantly exposed to vibration, temperature fluctuations, and moisture. Standard ring terminals can loosen over time, leading to increased resistance, heat buildup, and potential failure. The double grip mechanism of this terminal mitigates these risks by providing a secondary crimp on the insulation, which acts as a strain relief. This design is particularly beneficial in engine bays, control panels, and trailer wiring where movement is unavoidable.

The PVC insulation is formulated to withstand temperatures up to +75 C, making it suitable for under-bonnet applications and industrial enclosures. Its dielectric strength ensures reliable isolation up to 600 V, reducing the chance of short circuits in dense wiring looms. The M6 stud hole (6.4 mm diameter) fits standard metric fasteners, and the terminal’s compact dimensions (32.2 mm length, 12.0 mm width) allow installation in tight spaces.

Applications

This ring terminal is a versatile choice for a wide range of low-voltage and mains-rated connections:

• Automotive and 4WD: Battery terminals, earth points, auxiliary fuse blocks, and lighting circuits
• Marine and boating: Bilge pumps, navigation lights, and switch panels where vibration and moisture are constant
• Solar and off-grid: Charge controller and inverter connections up to 48 A
• Industrial machinery: Control cabinets, motor terminations, and sensor wiring
• Caravans and RVs: 12 V and 24 V systems, including battery management and solar inputs

With a maximum current rating of 48 A and 600 V voltage rating, this terminal supports both 12 V and 24 V automotive systems, as well as 48 V setups, making it a flexible component for various electrical projects.

Why Choose Hellermann Tyton?

Hellermann Tyton is a globally recognised manufacturer of cable management and connection solutions, trusted by professionals for consistent quality and compliance with international standards. This ring terminal is RoHS compliant, ensuring it meets environmental and safety requirements. The copper body provides low electrical resistance, while the tin plating guards against oxidation, maintaining a reliable connection over the product’s lifespan.

Compared to economy-grade terminals, the Hellermann Tyton double grip design offers superior mechanical strength and electrical performance. The colour-coded insulation not only speeds up installation but also reduces the risk of mismatching conductor sizes, a common cause of field failures. For installers and maintenance teams, this means fewer callbacks and increased system uptime.

Installation Tips

To achieve a secure crimp, use a ratchet crimping tool with dies matched to the terminal size. Ensure the conductor is fully inserted into the barrel before crimping, and verify that both the conductor and insulation crimps are properly formed. For high-current applications, confirm that the terminal’s 48 A rating is adequate after applying any necessary de-rating factors for temperature and bundling.
